CASUAL, or Cross platform ADB Scripting, Universal Android Loader, is
an one-click rooting and recovery software that can be used to gain
root access to your Galaxy Nexus device sub system and, then you can
easily install custom ROMs to benefit from improved ICS perfomances.
Make sure to read all the info listed in this post and do not attempt
to apply any changes if you don’t know what you’re doing. Ask for help
by posting in the comments section. Also, if you’re looking for a
different rooting guide, then you should try to use the instructions
listed in this Gnex universal root tutorial guide. That’s an older but accurate method to root the Gnex, while this one-click root method is easier to apply.
This software has been created by AdamOutler, an XDA Elite Recognized
Developer that has managed to create an one-click rooting method that
can be applied with Windows, Mac or Linux. It can be used on CDMA and
GSM model numbers and after the rooting is complete, CASUAL will add the
CWM Recovery without the need of unlocking Galaxy Nexus bootloader nor
wiping the data.
The CASUAL root and recovery method is java-based and that’s why it
can be used on all platforms with just one-click root method for Galaxy
Nexus that runs on Android 4.0.1 and 4.0.2 Ice Cream Sandwich. This
method doesn’t require you to wiping data nor to unlock the bootloader
of your Galaxy Nexus. Read the guidelines below to correctly prepare
your device and computer for the Galaxy Nexus rooting process:
- the developer says that wiping isn’t required but I recommend you to create backups of all the data currently store don your device, just in case something goes wrong during the wiping process.
- it works only with Galaxy Nexus GSM or CDMA models.
- it will root your device
- it installs Busybox and Clockworkmod Recovery
- apply the tutorial guide steps only if you know what you’re doing
- enable USB debugging by opening Settings, then scroll down to find ‘Developer Options’ or Development and open it; enable the USB debugging option. This action has to be performed when the Gnex is disconnected from your computer.
- make sure that your phone’s battery is charger with the battery power level being over 75%
- if your Windows, Mac or Linux computer doesn’t have Java installed, then you should click this link here and install it.
- install the USB drivers for Galaxy Nexus on your system: Gnex GSM Drivers – Gnex Sprint Drivers – Gnex Verizon Drivers. Click the drivers specific to your device.
- Download the CASUAL one-click root utility from here. Save it on your computer.
- Right-click the CASUAL jar application icon and select Open to launch it.
- Connect your Galaxy Nexus to your PC via USB cable. The ‘device connected’ message will appear in CASUAL screen. In case this notification doesn’t appear then you should install the USB drivers for your device. Read the preparation device.
- From the drop-down selection menu you need to select the ‘Root’ option. Click Do it.
- Install Galaxy Nexus CWM recovery and make sure to select the correct phone version, GSM or CDMA, the one that matches your device.
- Repeat the action for installing Busybox and click Do it. Busybox is a tool that might be required by various Android root apps.
