Those who own a Samsung Galaxy Player 5.0 can now root and install a
custom recovery image (CWM) on their smartphones, as those of
xda-developers had developed a method in which you can easily perform
the already mentioned operations. This is exactly what we will be
checking in today’s step by step guide, so if you want to learn how to
gain root access over your SG Player and install the CWM recovery image
on it, then you are in the right place. The steps you must complete are
easy to understand therefore you have nothing to worry about as your
device will be in safe hands.
The Galaxy Player is an impressive handset when it comes to the
display screen as it features a 5.0 inch touchscreen. This is making the
phone suitable for those who want to use their devices for more than
taking calls as it is perfect for video conferences, watching movies or
navigate through Internet. Beside this aspect, the Player is somehow
similar with the Galaxy S line of smartphones. On the specs side we have
an relatively slow 1 GHz single core processor, 8 GB of internal
storage memory, 2500 mAh battery, a poor 3.2 MP rear facing camera and a
VGA front facing one. Beside these, the Galaxy player is featuring the
already mentioned 5.0 LCD display and the Android Gingerbread OS. Now,
as you can see the performances are a little bit outdated, so you might
think in upgrading the same.
But for being able to do so, you must first root your SG Player 5.0.
In this way you can unchain the system and remove the factory
restrictions, so you can obtain more access to its OS. You will be able
to customize and optimize the software by your own taste and why not
power up the performances. Furthermore, after rooting maybe you will
want to update your device with a custom ROM firmware as these ROMs are
coming with the latest Android platform, the Jelly Bean one. But for
performing such an operation you will need to install a custom recovery
image on your phone. That’s why during the following lines I will show
you how to easily root and install CWM recovery on your Galaxy Player.
Take note as this is a complex operation that isn’t coming from
Samsung. This means that it is considered risky, so you shouldn’t apply
things on your handset by yourselves. Furthermore, by rooting the system
you will void the warranty. If you are feeling uncomfortable about this
aspect maybe it will be a good idea to stop here. The warranty can be
regained but only if you decide to downgrade to the stock ROM, or if you
apply an official update released by Samsung and designed for your
Player. Anyway, before heading to the steps from below, read all the
lines from this tutorial for ensuring that you are doing all that it
should and for ensuring that your handset is in safe hands.
Now, for completing the guide you will have to use Odin, which is a
dedicated app designed especially for this types of operations. Also,
you will have to download some files which will be applied on your phone
by using the already mentioned tool. For this you need to have access
to a Windows running computer and to your Player USB cable. Then, before
starting the root process, it is recommended to backup
the data. Unfortunately it might get wiped out so you can risk in
losing all of your personal data, the one that is saved on the internal
storage memory. Now, for making a full and safe backup I recommend you
to read and complete the list from below. Also, I have mentioned some
other pre requisites which are essential if you want to safely complete
the root method.
- Download and then use SMS backup and restore apps for Android.
- Download call log backup and restore tools.
- Sync with Google if you want to save the contacts.
- Save internet settings.
- Use a computer for backing up any other file.
- Enable the USB debugging option on your phone.
- Deactivate the security tools that run on your Player and on your computer.
