Rooting the Galaxy Tab 2 is easy and all the info you need can be
found in this post. Read the entire tutorial and learn that you will
only be able to root the Tab 2 GT P3100 if you already installed the CWM
Recovery, as this is the only way you will be able to flash all the
required root files.
This guide will only work with the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 that has
the model number set to GT P3100 and now you can easily root it by using
all the steps I’ve listed in this article. Make sure that your device has the Clockworkmod Recovery installed,
because only by using it you will manage to root the GT-P3100 tablet.
Before we can begin to root the device, you will first need to read the
info listed in the pre-requisites guide and learn what is there left to
be done so that you will manage to successfully install the root at
first attempt.
This tutorial guide should be easy to follow. If you cannot
understand any instructions I’ve listed, then you should use the
comments section to ask for our help. Remember to read the entire prep
guide and only after you’ve met all the requirements you can move to the
how-to root guide. Here’s what you need to know:
- apply the root only on the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 3G with 7.0 inch display and the model number GT-P3100. Do not attempt to root other devices using the files listed in this article.
- the Samsung USB Drivers should be installed. You can use Samsung KIES to install them, but, make sure to disable KIES when you start the rooting process.
- disable all antivirus programs currently running on your PC.
- fully charge the device’s tablet so that it won’t power off during the root process.
- backup all your important stored data by moving it on your device’s external sdcard.
- if you wish to backup applications, SMS text messages, Call Logs info and the APN Settings, then I strongly recommend you to use these specific Android programs: AppBAK for Android apps backups | SMS backup & restore | Call Logs backup & restore | APN Settings Backup & Restore.
- Sync your saved Contacts with your Gmail account. Here’s a guide that teaches you how to complete the syncing process.
- Please note that by rooting the device, you will void its warranty and if you wish to revoke root access then you will have to return to stock Android firmware.
- I repeat, if you wish to root the device, then the CWM Recovery should be installed on it. This guide here will teach you how to install CWM on Galaxy Tab 2 7.0.
How to root Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 model number GT-P3100:
- Download the root zip file from here. Save it on your PC and do not extract its contents.
- Next, copy it on your Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 external sdcard, which should be found by opening /mnt and then /extsdcard. Do not copy the root zip file on the internal sdcard as that one cannot be viewed by the CWM Recovery.
- After the transfer is complete, you have to power off the tablet and disconnect it from your PC.
- Boot into CWM Recovery screen. This can be done by pressing and holding ‘Volume down’ + ‘Power’ buttons simultaneously.
- When you notice the Samsung Logo you should let go off the Power button, but keep Volume down pressed. This will boot into CWM Recovery and you can move to the next step.
- Now, select the option that says ‘install zip from sdcard’ and then ‘choose zip from sdcard’.
- Find the root zip file you moved at step 2 and then confirm that you wish to flash it.
- Wait for the root process to complete and then go back to the main recovery menu.
- Select ‘reboot system now’. Wait for the reboot to complete and that would be all, now your Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 has been successfully rooted and you’re free to start installing new custom ROMs or any other applications that are working only with rooted devices.
