Since there are official updates rolled out constantly for the Galaxy
Note 2 you should also look for new and suitable root methods that can
be safely applied on the latest versions of the Jelly Bean 4.1.2
software. The same is happening for those who have recently flashed the
new Android 4.1.2 XXDME1 firmware on their Samsung Galaxy Note 2
devices, as now they have to find a root procedure that can be used on
the XXDME1 ROM. If so, then this guide will be extremely helpful for you
as during the next few lines we will be checking on how to root the
Note 2 that is powered by the mentioned Android system.
In order to succeed with our plans we will use the CF-Auto-Root tool
which can be downloaded for free thanks to those of xda-developers (we
have them to thanks for this opportunity). Anyway, as you will see
below, the rooting procedure can be easily completed as there are only
few things to take care of. Fortunately for you, Odin will be used,
which means that you don’t have to install and run complex and risky
apps for being able to root your Note 2.
But before detailing the root operation you first have to learn
something related to the same. By completing this tutorial, the Galaxy
Note 2 warranty will get void. Unfortunately this aspect can be avoided
as you will make changes on the internal system of your device (I will
explain why in a second). So, be careful in what you do as if you
somehow manage to brick your phablet, you will be by yourselves. As a
final note related to the warranty you should know that the same can be
restored; all you have to do is to downgrade to stock Jelly Bean 4.1.2 XXDME1 OS, or to update to an future official Android firmware released by Samsung and suitable with your Note 2.
The root procedure must be applied by those who are looking forward
in obtaining more power from their devices. By gaining root access you
are actually making changes on the default settings of your phone by
removing the factory restrictions from the internal system. That’s why,
after rooting, you can access the OS, remove in built programs, add new
tools, flash custom ROMs and apps, customize the performances, optimize
the looks and so on.
Now, all you have to do before starting to root your Note 2 is to
backup your data. You see, the root operation is an unofficial process,
not to mention that it’s risky and complex, and due the same
consideration it is recommended to save your personal info before going
any further. Else, you might end up in noticing that your contacts list,
call logs, internet settings, EFS, text messages, market apps and so on were erased.
Then, you need to ensure that you can use a Windows powered computer
as you have to download the required files on the same. Also, your
phablet and its USB cable will be used on the root operation. In order
to make things right, first of all deactivate the antivirus and Firewall
(along with any other security tool) protection from both computer and
Samsung Galaxy Note 2. Next, ensure that the USB debugging option is
enabled on your smartphone (check the same by going to “Settings ->
Applications -> Development -> USB debugging”) and also charge its
battery if somehow you notice that there is less than 60% power left
(else the phone might get turned off – and bricked – while you are
trying to root its system).
Anyhow, before starting the steps from below do remember that this
guide has been developed only for the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 on official
Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean XXDME1 firmware so don’t try to apply the same
on a different device or for a different version of the Android system.
How to Root Galaxy Note 2 on Jelly Bean 4.1.2 XXDME1 Firmware with CF-Auto-Root
- On your computer download and install Samsung KIES; flash the Note 2 drivers. If the drivers are already installed on your PC, you can skip this step.
- From here download the root package.
- Then, download and install Odin.
- On your computer open Odin.
- Turn off your phablet and reboot it into download mode: press and hold Volume Down, Power and Home buttons at the same time.
- Connect your handset with the computer.
- Once you do that on Odin you should notice that the “added” message is displayed and that the ID:COM section is either yellow or blue; if not re-install the drivers first and then retry.
- From Odin now select “PDA” and pick the root file you have just downloaded before.
- Don’t make any other changes just click on “start”.
- When done, on Odin you will see the “pass” message displayed.
- You can then unplug the USB cord and reboot your device.
